CATECHU

Foreign. A substance obtained from the wood of the Acacia Catechu. As a tonic it is most valuable in diarrhoea, chronic dysentery; it makes an excellent gargle for sore throats, or elongated uvula. It is good for sponginess of the gums, being allowed to dissolve in the mouth; it makes an excellent dentrifice. It is serviceable in gleet, Cucorrhoea, in passive hemorrhages, especially those of the bowels and uterus, and for ulcerated mouth, chapped nipples, used as a tincture.
